Translating and Interpreting – The Right Choice for You

Imagine yourself as a competent expert for languages and cultures after completing your degree program. If this feels right, then our faculty is the right place for you! You can choose between the following degree programs:

  • Bachelor of Arts Translation: In this program, you start your translation career by developing your foreign language skills and gaining experience translating your first texts.
  • Master of Arts Translation: In this program, you hone your foreign language skills and choose your own focus in the areas of translation or interpreting.

Duration:

6 semesters

Start:

Usually winter semester

Requirements:

English and French: at least B1 level; German: at least B2 level; all other languages: no prior knowledge

Languages:
Arabic, Dutch, English, French, GermanItalian, Modern Greek, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Turkish

You can enroll in the Bachelor of Arts Translation studying either one or two foreign languages. A central part of your degree program are numerous foreign language and translation classes. To best be prepared for your professional life, you attend classes related to translation as a profession, e.g. classes in translation, linguistics and cultural studies and classes focussing on communication, media and technologies.

Studierende an Arbeitsplätzen in der Bibliothek arbeiten selbstständig und in Gruppen. Auch das gehört dazu, wenn Sie Übersetzen oder Dolmetschen studieren.

C1 level for all languages

Languages:
Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, English, French, GermanItalian, Modern Greek, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Turkish
You can enroll in the Master of Arts Translation studying either one or two foreign languages. You can choose one of the following specializations:

  • Community Interpreting − Social Settings, Healthcare, Legal Interpreting
  • Specialised Translation, Language Management, and Artificial Intelligence
  • Conference Interpreting
  • Translation − Literature, Media, Culture

There are many good reasons for studying translation or interpreting at our faculty. Our students name the most important ones.

From 1 June 2023 to 1 September 2023 you can apply for a degree course that starts in the winter semester 2023/24.

For students whose native language is other than German, we offer the unique opportunity of studying our degree programs in the "German as a foreign language" variant. In addition to German as the first foreign language, you can chose other foreign languages. Admission requirements:

  • Certificate of recognition for foreign diplomas
  • Very good knowledge of German
